A lot of homeowners think installing an EV charger is as simple as mounting a box on the wall. In reality, getting it done right - especially for a Tesla Universal Wall Connector - takes serious electrical work underneath the surface. That's exactly what we tackled here.

The feeders for this install had to be run underground along the side of the home, all the way from the electrical panel to the front driveway where the charger would live. That meant trenching alongside the foundation, running conduit through tight spaces, and making sure every connection was code-compliant and built to handle the load long-term. It's not glamorous work, but it's what separates a solid, lasting install from one that causes headaches down the road.

Once the underground run was complete and the trench was ready to be backfilled, we mounted the Tesla Universal Wall Connector on the exterior stucco wall right at the driveway. Clean placement, properly secured conduit coming up from below - the kind of finish that looks intentional because it is. The Universal Wall Connector works with Tesla vehicles as well as any other EV using a J1772 adapter, so it's a future-proof setup regardless of what's in your garage next.

Underground electrical feeders aren't always necessary, but when the panel is on the opposite side of the house from where you need to charge, it's the right way to do it. Surface-mounted conduit running across the front of a home is an eyesore and a potential liability. Going underground keeps things clean, protected from the elements, and out of the way.
