Sometimes the damage in an electrical panel isn't from age - it's from the way it was installed in the first place. That was the case here. During original construction, paint and texture overspray got into this subpanel and coated everything inside. Over time, that contamination trapped moisture and accelerated corrosion across the breakers and enclosure. The panel didn't fail because it was old. It failed because it never had a fair shot.

The old panel tells the whole story. The interior was caked with dried texture and paint, the wiring was loose and unorganized, and corrosion had worked its way into the breakers themselves. This is the kind of thing that doesn't always show obvious symptoms right away - but it's a real safety risk sitting quietly behind your wall.

We pulled it all out and started fresh with a clean Siemens subpanel, properly seated and flush-mounted in the wall. Every circuit was re-terminated and organized. The breakers are clearly labeled, the wiring is routed cleanly, and there's nothing in that enclosure that shouldn't be there. Night and day difference from what we found.

This is why installation quality matters so much with electrical work. Cutting corners during construction - or just being careless near live equipment - can shorten the lifespan of your panel significantly and create hazards that are hard to detect without opening it up. A panel that looks fine from the outside can be a mess inside.

If your home was built on the cheaper end or you've had unexplained tripping, flickering, or just haven't had your panels looked at in a while, it's worth having someone open them up and take a look. Problems like this one are fixable - but they're a lot easier to deal with before something goes wrong.
