Dedicated 20 Amp Circuit for a Portable AC That Kept Tripping the Breaker

A portable AC unit is a pretty common solution when a room just doesn't stay cool enough. Plug it in, run the exhaust hose out the window, and you're good to go - until the breaker trips. That's exactly what was happening here. Every time the unit kicked on, it was pulling more power than the shared circuit could handle.

The fix isn't complicated, but it does require a licensed electrician. We added a dedicated 20 amp circuit specifically for this unit. That means no more competing with other outlets on the same line, no more breaker trips, and no more babysitting the electrical panel every time the AC cycles on.

Here's why it matters: portable AC units - especially larger ones - draw a significant amount of current when the compressor starts up. You can see the open wall box on the right side of the wall - that's where the new outlet was being roughed in to give this unit its own dedicated line. Clean, straightforward work that makes a real difference in how reliably the system runs.
